WHO WE ARE / ABOUT US
Founded in the wake of 2007-2008 post-election violence and recognizing gross violation and abuse of human rights by both state and none-state actors; MIDRIFT HURINET – a not – for profit organization since then has endeavored to empower citizens, State and non-state actors to inculcate a culture of human rights, peace, safety and security. Through inter-sectoral partnership and collaboration geared towards collective action for collective impact, we drive positive and sustainable change in realization of human rights, peace safety and security for all people and society at large.
MIDRIFT HURINET has mandate to work in entire Kenyan Republic but currently operates in five counties; Nakuru, Baringo, Kericho, Uasin Gishu and Kisumu, collectively serving the needs of people. In a world where rapid change and unprecedented disruption are the new normal, we inspire confidence and empower change in all we do. We lead with a commitment to mainstreaming Human Rights-based approaches in all programming in order to promote sustainability in the achievement of equality and equity for all.
WHAT WE DO
We do This Through two-fold intervention areas:
1.Peace Safety and Security
Our peace, safety and security programmes are evidence-based geared towards building trust between state and non-state actors with focus on building better relationships between state institutions, especially police, and the communities they serve, creating basic conditions for a collective action; addressing trends towards extra-legal, private security solutions and establishment of mechanisms for violence prevention in the society.
2.Governance and Human Rights
We are keen on devolution and ensuring good governance in the devolved units in Kenya. Prudence in the utilization of devolved funds, citizen participation as enshrined in the Constitution and other subsidiary laws and fulfillment; respect; promotion and protection of human rights is core to our mandate.
To mainstream Human Rights-based approaches in programming in order to promote sustainable interventions.
To have a peaceful society that respects, protects and promotes Human Rights.
