Root Causes Of Genderbased Violence

This study report, conducted by MIDRIFT and DIGNITY, delved into the root causes of gender-based violence (GBV) in Nakuru County’s informal settlements, revealing that harmful gender norms, beliefs, and attitudes are key drivers of the high rates of violence experienced by women and girls. Conducted in the aftermath of a surge in GBV during the COVID-19 pandemic, the research highlights how deeply entrenched societal expectations around gender contribute to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. The findings emphasize the urgent need to challenge and transform these harmful norms to address the persistent cycle of violence in vulnerable communities.
